James A. Emanuel (Comp)

James A. Emanuel was an African-American poet, scholar, and critic known for his work in the field of African-American literature. He was born on June 15, 1921, in Alliance, Nebraska, and passed away on September 28, 2013. Emanuel is noted for his poetry, which often dealt with themes of racism and social injustice, as well as for his scholarly contributions, including the compilation of anthologies of African-American literature. He spent much of his later life in Paris, France, and was also known for developing the literary genre of jazz haiku.
