Cardinal de Retz

Cardinal de Retz, full name Jean François Paul de Gondi, was a 17th-century French cleric, writer, and political agitator. Born on September 29, 1613, in Montmirail, France, he became the archbishop of Paris and a cardinal. He is best known for his role in the Fronde, a series of civil wars in France, and for his memoirs, which provide an insightful account of the period's political intrigues and personalities. Cardinal de Retz was a prominent figure in the Catholic Church and French politics until his death on August 24, 1679.
