Alvaro Mutis

Álvaro Mutis was a Colombian poet, novelist, and essayist. Born on August 25, 1923, in Bogotá, Colombia, he is best known for his novels featuring the character Maqroll el Gaviero (Maqroll the Lookout). Mutis' work is celebrated for its lush, richly descriptive prose and exploration of existential themes. He received numerous awards for his literary work, including the Xavier Villaurrutia Award in 1988 and the Cervantes Prize, the most prestigious Spanish-language literary award, in 2001. Álvaro Mutis passed away on September 22, 2013, in Mexico City, Mexico.
