Jorge Manrique

Jorge Manrique was a Spanish poet, born in 1440 in Paredes de Nava, Castile, and died in 1479. He is best known for his work 'Coplas por la muerte de su padre' (Stanzas about the Death of His Father), which is considered one of the greatest elegies written in Spanish literature. His poetry is marked by the themes of life, death, and the fleeting nature of fame and fortune, reflecting the philosophical and moralistic currents of his time. Manrique's verses combine traditional medieval forms with Renaissance humanism, and his work had a significant influence on Spanish literature.
