Zbigniew Herbert

Zbigniew Herbert was a renowned Polish poet, essayist, drama writer, and moralist. Born on October 29, 1924, in Lwów, Poland (now Lviv, Ukraine), he is considered one of the most important and influential figures in 20th-century Polish literature. Herbert's work is known for its classical style and deep philosophical themes, often reflecting on history, culture, and the human condition. His most famous collections include 'Chord of Light' (1956) and 'Mr Cogito' (1974). He received numerous awards for his literary output and his poetry has been translated into many languages. Zbigniew Herbert passed away on July 28, 1998.
