Winifred Holtby

Winifred Holtby was a renowned English novelist and journalist, best known for her novel 'South Riding'. Born on June 23, 1898, in Rudston, Yorkshire, she was also a feminist and social activist who campaigned for various social causes, including women's rights and racial equality. Holtby was a close friend of fellow writer Vera Brittain, and her life was cut short when she died of Bright's disease at the age of 37 on September 29, 1935.
