Set during the final days of World War II, the story follows Hideki, a young Okinawan boy, and Ray, an American Marine, as they navigate the chaos and destruction of the Battle of Okinawa. Hideki is thrust into the conflict when he is handed two grenades and instructed to fight for his homeland, while Ray grapples with the harsh realities of war and the moral dilemmas it presents. As their paths collide amidst the brutality, both boys must confront their fears, question their beliefs, and ultimately decide what they are willing to sacrifice for survival and humanity.
