A Native guide at a virtual reality tourism company sells “authentic” Indigenous experiences to paying customers, only to befriend a white visitor whose obsession with performing Indigeneity begins to overtake the guide’s own life. As stories, symbols, and even personal relationships are appropriated, the line between staged experience and reality erodes, leaving the guide displaced from his job, community, and sense of self. The result is a sharp, unsettling examination of commodification, stereotype, and the devastating costs of cultural appropriation.
