Inherent Or Inherited? by Swami Padmanabha

Bhakti in the Jiva According to Gaudiya Vedanta

A theological study within the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition that examines whether devotion (bhakti) is intrinsic to the soul or granted through divine grace via guru and saintly association. Drawing on primary scriptures and classical commentaries, it argues that bhakti is a gift of the Lord’s internal energy rather than an inherent property of the jiva, clarifies distinctions between the marginal and internal potencies, and explains how faith, samskaras, and practice arise from sadhu-sanga. The work addresses historical interpretations and contemporary controversies, offering practical implications for spiritual life and community dialogue.
