Jesus Remembered by Robert G. Dunn

A comprehensive historical study set within first-century Judaism, this work surveys the gospel traditions and other sources to reconstruct a plausible portrait of Jesus' mission and message. It argues that oral memory and communal transmission preserved his words and deeds, critiques traditional criteria of authenticity, and advances 'remembering' as a better method. The result is a picture of a Galilean prophet proclaiming God's kingdom through healings, exorcisms, parables, and inclusive table fellowship, whose controversial ministry led to execution and catalyzed the earliest Christian movement.
