Aztec Warfare by Debra Hassig

Imperial Expansion and Political Control

A scholarly study of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican military practice that analyzes how warfare shaped the Aztec Empire’s expansion and mechanisms of political control. Drawing on ethnohistoric and archaeological evidence, it examines organization, training, weapons and tactics, warrior ranks and societies, the ritual and economic motives behind campaigns (including sacrificial and tribute systems), and how military institutions were used to integrate or dominate conquered peoples.
