Set in the densely networked orbital society known as the Glitter Band, the story follows a veteran law-enforcement prefect who is drawn back into service to investigate a series of shocking, apparently self-inflicted deaths; what begins as local tragedies soon reveals a deliberate, technologically enabled campaign entwined with religious zeal and political intrigue, forcing the investigator to unravel hidden motivations, dangerous tools and fragile social architectures before the violence spreads and the Band itself is threatened.
