In an alternate Earth where Mesozoic reptiles evolved into an intelligent, technologically and biologically sophisticated reptilian civilization known as the Yilane, scattered human tribes struggle for survival and freedom; the story follows Kerrick and other humans as they rally disparate groups, exploit Yilane vulnerabilities, and engage in raids, diplomacy, and daring gambits. As tensions escalate into full-scale confrontation, both species are forced to adapt, confront moral ambiguities, and consider whether coexistence or domination will shape the continent’s future, with the climax settling long-held questions about survival, culture, and what it means to be human.
