Four middle-school girls and their mothers form a neighborhood book club to read and discuss classic novels, and as they share books they also confront changing friendships, first crushes, family upheavals, and secret tensions; the group becomes a space where the girls learn about growing up, loyalty, and the complicated, evolving bonds between mothers and daughters.
