A grieving twelve-year-old boy grieving the death of his best friend accidentally punches a hole in the sky and is hurled into a strange, mythic world where West African and African American folktale figures are real; there he must confront tricksters, monsters, and his own guilt as he joins unlikely allies on a dangerous quest to mend the ripped sky, restore stolen stories, and find courage and identity in the face of loss.
