House Taken Over by Julio Cortazar

An introverted brother and his sister live a ritualized, comfortable life in their large ancestral home until inexplicable noises and an unseen presence progressively claim portions of the house; with each intrusion they abandon rooms, shrink their routines, and grow more anxious and resigned. As the encroachments escalate their private world collapses into silence and displacement, and they are ultimately forced to leave the house behind, a quiet, uncanny parable about loss, inertia, and the fragile boundary between domestic safety and outside forces.
