Latin Vulgate Bible by Jerome
A late fourth-century Latin translation and revision of the Christian scriptures that became the standard text for Western Christianity, produced by consolidating and correcting earlier Latin versions and translating from Hebrew and Greek sources. It presents the full canon of Old and New Testaments (including several deuterocanonical books in many manuscripts), shaped medieval theology, liturgy, and education, and exerted lasting influence on the Latin language and biblical scholarship. Its wide adoption by the Church led to extensive manuscript transmission and later scholarly efforts to produce critical editions addressing textual variants.
