Il Viaggio Del Pellegrino Da Questo Mondo A Quello Venturo Presentato In Forma Di Sogno by John Bunyan

Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream

A devout everyman leaves his doomed hometown to journey toward the Celestial City, guided by a prophetic messenger and sustained by faith as he faces allegorical trials—temptation, despair, persecution, and doubt—embodied by characters and places such as a condemning monster, false counselors, Vanity Fair, and Doubting Castle. Along the way he receives instruction in repentance, perseverance, and grace from symbolic figures and institutions, forms friendships that strengthen him, and learns to resist worldly temptations until he must pass the River of Death to enter the promised city. The narrative functions as an extended Christian allegory of the soul’s pilgrimage from sin to salvation.
