Epic Of Gelgamesh by Unknown
A proud king of Uruk forms a deep bond with a wild companion and together they undertake heroic exploits—overcoming monstrous foes and provoking the gods—only to suffer a devastating loss that sends the king on a desperate quest to escape death. He seeks out a survivor of a primeval flood who reveals that immortality is reserved for the gods, and through trials and revelations the king comes to accept human limits, returning home to find consolation in the lasting achievements of his city. The tale meditates on friendship, grief, the fear of mortality, and the search for meaning in a fleeting life.
