A tightly focused family drama that follows a pair of conjoined twins who are surgically separated so the father can favor a son, leaving the girl physically impaired and socially marginalized; the ensuing conflicts among parents, grandparents, the medical establishment, and the twins themselves expose intense gender bias, emotional cruelty, and moral ambiguity as questions of identity, personhood, responsibility, and justice come to a painful head.
