Strangers At The Port by Lauren Aimee Curtis
Giulia is ten and has never left the greenest island of a volcanic archipelago. Her closest companion, after her older sister Giovanna, is a donkey she decorates with ribbons and imagines marrying. Life on the island is governed by ritual, community, superstition and isolation, and it feels verdant and settled until strangers arrive. Men come ashore, a foreign yacht anchors at the port, the vines begin to fail, and everything changes.
