Aleister Crowley & The Hidden God by Kenneth Grant

A focused, interpretive study of a notorious occult figure and his legacy that centers sexual mysticism and taboo as gateways to a subterranean divine presence; it reads rituals, symbolism (Qabalah, Egyptian motifs, and tantric concepts) and biographical episodes to argue that erotic initiation and transgressive practice serve to confront and integrate subconscious and transpersonal forces, revealing a chthonic “hidden god” that underlies and subverts orthodox religion. Drawing on archival detail, personal anecdote and esoteric theory, the work situates these practices within a continuing occult current and contends they have practical implications for ritual technique, magical psychology, and the renewal of modern occult tradition.
