Mooncop by Tom Gauld
An aging lunar police officer is the last constable on a dwindling moon colony, carrying out small, increasingly pointless duties as the settlement empties and automation and bureaucracy encroach. Through quiet, deadpan vignettes he grapples with loneliness, obsolescence and the search for purpose, balancing gentle humor with melancholy as community services wind down and new technologies render his role redundant. The story is a spare, bittersweet meditation on change, isolation and letting go.
