Sociopathic Society by Charles Derber
This book argues that many of the United States' dominant institutions and cultural norms produce and reward antisocial, predatory behavior—what the author calls a sociopathic social order—by privileging corporate power, privatization, militarism, and consumerism over democratic accountability, public welfare, and community bonds. Drawing on sociology, political economy, and cultural analysis, it traces how elites, media, deregulation, and global capitalism undermine social solidarity, deepen inequality, and normalize aggression and self-interest, and it calls for grassroots organizing, renewed civic institutions, and policies that restore collective responsibility and democratic control.
