Oranges In No Man's Land by Laird, Peter
Set during the Lebanese civil war, a young girl is left behind in a besieged city when most of her neighbors and some family flee; determined to protect her home and care for those who remain, she confronts snipers, shortages, and the constant fear of violence while forging unlikely alliances, showing resourcefulness and quiet courage. As the siege grinds on she witnesses loss and moral compromise but also finds small acts of kindness and moments of hope that reveal the resilience of ordinary people caught up in war.
