The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker
In this dark and chilling tale, a man named Frank Cotton seeks the ultimate in pleasure and pain by solving a mysterious puzzle box that opens a gateway to another dimension. This realm is inhabited by the Cenobites, sadomasochistic beings who offer an eternity of torment. After Frank's disappearance, his brother Rory and Rory's wife Julia move into the house where Frank vanished. Julia, who once had an affair with Frank, discovers his partially resurrected form and becomes entangled in a gruesome plan to restore him to full life by luring victims to the house. As the boundary between pleasure and pain blurs, the story explores themes of desire, obsession, and the consequences of seeking forbidden experiences.
