Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

Set in 1959 Virginia, the story follows two high school girls, Sarah, a Black student integrating into a previously all-white school, and Linda, the daughter of a segregationist. As they navigate the intense racial tensions and personal challenges of their environment, they are forced to confront their own beliefs and the lies they've been told by society and themselves. Through their evolving relationship, they discover unexpected truths about identity, prejudice, and the courage it takes to stand up for what is right.
