Dark Matter by Michelle Paver
Set in the 1930s, the story follows Jack, a young man who joins an Arctic expedition to escape his troubled past and financial woes. As the team sets up camp in the remote and desolate Gruhuken, the perpetual darkness of the polar night begins to weigh heavily on them. Jack finds himself increasingly isolated as his companions are forced to leave due to various circumstances. Alone, he starts experiencing eerie occurrences and becomes convinced that a malevolent presence is haunting the camp. The novel explores themes of isolation, fear, and the supernatural, as Jack battles both the harsh environment and his own psychological demons.
