The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl
Set in 1865 Boston, the story follows a group of prominent scholars, including poets Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Oliver Wendell Holmes, as they work to translate Dante's "The Divine Comedy" into English. Their intellectual pursuit takes a dark turn when a series of gruesome murders, inspired by Dante's inferno, begins to terrorize the city. The scholars find themselves drawn into the investigation, using their knowledge of Dante's work to unravel the mystery and stop the killer. As they delve deeper, they confront challenges that test their friendships, beliefs, and the boundaries between academia and real-world horrors.
