Darktown by Thomas Mullen

Set in the racially charged atmosphere of 1948 Atlanta, this gripping historical crime novel follows two of the city's first black police officers as they navigate the dangerous waters of their new roles. Tasked with patrolling the vibrant yet perilous neighborhood of Darktown, they face hostility from both the white-dominated police force and the community they serve. When a young black woman is found dead, their pursuit of justice leads them into a web of corruption and prejudice, challenging their resolve and testing the limits of their authority in a society resistant to change.
