Aliyah and her daughter, Sakina, seek a fresh start in rural New South Wales after facing a series of personal challenges. They settle into a dilapidated property and hire Shep, a reserved Palestinian man who also serves as the local imām, to help with the farm. During a storm, Aliyah encounters Hana, a childhood friend in dire straits, and invites her to stay. As Aliyah juggles her relationships with Hana and Shep, tensions mount, especially as her connection with Shep deepens. The story culminates in a dramatic confrontation involving Hana's brother, Hashim, and Aliyah's friend Billie, a Kamilaroi midwife, amidst the backdrop of encroaching bushfires.
