The Last Leaf by O. Henry

In a quaint Greenwich Village neighborhood, two struggling artists, Sue and Johnsy, face a dire situation when Johnsy falls gravely ill with pneumonia. As she lies in bed, she becomes fixated on the leaves of a vine outside her window, believing that her life will end when the last leaf falls. Their elderly neighbor, Behrman, a failed artist who dreams of creating a masterpiece, takes it upon himself to give Johnsy hope. In an act of selfless artistry, he paints a realistic leaf on the wall, which remains steadfast through a stormy night, inspiring Johnsy to fight for her life. Tragically, Behrman succumbs to pneumonia after his night in the cold, leaving behind his final, life-saving masterpiece.
