Alan M. Turing
Alan Mathison Turing was a pioneering British mathematician, logician, and computer scientist. He is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Turing played a crucial role in breaking the German Enigma code during World War II, significantly contributing to the Allied war effort. His work laid the foundation for modern computing and he is remembered for the Turing Test, a measure of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.

1. Computing Machinery And Intelligence
This seminal work explores the question of whether machines can think, proposing the famous "imitation game" as a method to evaluate a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. The text delves into the philosophical and technical aspects of artificial intelligence, addressing potential objections and misconceptions about machine cognition. It lays the groundwork for future developments in AI by suggesting that digital computers could eventually simulate any process of formal reasoning, thus challenging the boundaries between human and machine intelligence.
