Fourth-century Roman historian and former soldier, author of the Res Gestae (only books 14–31 survive), widely regarded as the last major Latin historian of the Roman Empire; a Greek-speaking native of Antioch who served as a protector domesticus and accompanied Emperor Julian’s Persian campaign.
