  1. 1. Math On Trial

How Numbers Get Used and Abused in the Courtroom

A provocative examination of criminal cases ruined by statistical misunderstanding and misuse of probability, recounting historical and modern trials where expert testimony, flawed calculations, and the prosecutor’s fallacy produced wrongful convictions; it explains the relevant math (probability, combinatorics, DNA statistics) in accessible terms, exposes how courts and experts misinterpret numbers, and argues for greater statistical literacy and legal reform to prevent such miscarriages of justice.
