Generation "п" by Виктор Пелевин
Set in the chaotic post-Soviet 1990s, the novel follows a young poet-turned-copywriter who drifts into Moscow’s burgeoning advertising industry and, through darkly comic and hallucinatory episodes, learns to manufacture desire and myth, transforming political and spiritual symbols into brands while questioning reality, identity and power. As he rises, he becomes an agent of cultural manipulation—creating campaigns, voice-overs and pseudo-religious narratives that blur truth and fiction—culminating in a paranoid descent into simulacra, conspiracy and the commodification of belief. The work satirizes capitalism, mass media and the spiritual vacuum of the transition era, mixing absurdist humor with philosophical reflections on language, consumerism and the malleability of consciousness.
