Blokken by F. Bordewijk

Set in a rigid, geometrical society organized into uniform blocks, the novella follows an individual who confronts an impersonal totalitarian order that enforces conformity, surveils private life, and reduces people to administrative functions; as his longing for personal connection and desire clash with the state's mechanized rituals, his tentative acts of resistance are crushed in a stark, allegorical ending that exposes the dehumanizing effects of collectivism and bureaucratic power.
